-Churt Responders update-
Churt NFR has operated for a period of 1 year, we are attending an average of 4 calls per month and we expect this to rise as the evenings draw in and the temperature falls. Our greatest contribution has been in providing immediate first aid to fallers and Oxygen therapy to persons with Difficulty in Breathing or Chest Pains, not to mention our support whilst we await the arrival of the ambulance. It is great to report that we have not had to attend any critical calls and the Ambulance time to reach a patient is very good. Our priority remains attending immediate life threatening calls where the first minutes of treatment can make a big difference to survival rates. We are all volunteers. We do not attend Traffic Accidents, Violence or Gynaecological emergencies.
We are currently operating with two primary responders with a third person who takes duty from time to time. We are also pleased to advise that a further person will undergo training in November. We have a further member who continues to be registered has not been available for duty. We would be delighted to hear from willing volunteers within the village who would be prepared to undergo training or who might wish to volunteer to help us raise funds.

SURREY AMBULANCE SERVICE
NHS TRUST
More than 260,000 people suffer a heart attack in the UK each year, about a third of these die before reaching hospital due to cardiac arrest. Cardiac arrests will cause the heart either to quiver - known as fibrillation - or stop beating altogether. If these patients received prompt medical treatment, 85% of them have the potential to survive.
The Community Responder scheme has been set up to increase the rapid response that is so vital to increase the survival rate, by bridging the gap between the call being sent to Surrey Ambulance Service & the arrival of an ambulance.
Community Responders are a growing network of volunteers from all walks of life who are trained to a national standards to work within a community in life saving techniques.
Working on a rota basis, they work within their local community responding to emergency calls sent to them from Surrey Ambulance Service Control Room.
They can respond on foot, bike or by car [No Blue Lights Sorry], & are covered by our N.H.S Insurance policy. They give their time free and rely on local funding & the community for the purchase of their emergency resuscitation kit and other equipment.
Under the Churt scheme, Surrey Ambulance Service is providing the Automatic External Defibrillator.
Volunteers are needed to help in YOUR COMMUNITY to deal with any emergency before the ambulance arrives. This will mean the public will benefit from having life saving equipment immediately accessible within their local community.
