CHURT PARISH COUNCIL NEWSLETTER June 2008
This free newsletter is intended to keep the people of Churt informed
about the work of Churt Parish Council.
The village is to participate in a Surrey Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty 50 th anniversary celebration to produce a poster of photographs of 50 years ago and now.
The Council has not agreed to a request for funds from The Surrey Hills Society.
Calor Village of the Year. Cllr Martin has taken over this project from Cllr Pierson. The judges will be visiting the village on 9 July at 2.30pm and Cllr Martin is to prepare an information pack for them. Depending on the judges' timetable, representatives of village organisations may be invited to meet them to promote their organisation's role in the community.
Magazines stored at the rear of Churt News have been stolen and there has also been a theft of lead from a roof. Anyone who has any information about these crimes should inform the police. Mr Peter Clubbe, who was present at the meeting, was able to explain that the PCC had taken all steps possible to minimise the risk of theft from St. John's.
It is regretted that none of the items in the village that have been reported to SCC Highways as needing attention have been dealt with. SCC Cllr David Harmer is to press for action. Cllr Martin reported that the web site “holes in the road" feature was working well with residents reporting problems which are then passed on to Surrey Highways for attention. Surrey Highways normally respond quickly in making the damage good.
At this time of year, with hedges growing fast, sight lines at bends and corners in the narrow lanes become restricted and therefore dangerous. Property owners should be aware that cutting back hedges on the highway side of the hedge is their responsibility and, in the interests of road safety, all landowners are requested to attend to any overgrown hedges as soon as possible.
Residents should be aware that TAG Farnborough Airport, acting in accordance with a Government White Paper and in collaboration with Rushmoor Borough Council, is to prepare a master plan setting out proposals for making the best possible use of existing airport infrastructure to 2015. It is possible that the number of aircraft movements may be increased from 28,000 per annum to 55,000. One of the major approach routes from the South passes directly over Churt. The Council is taking steps to seek better and further information than it currently has; to ensure that it is fully represented in the consultation process and to collaborate with other parishes affected. It is probable that, at the appropriate time, residents' views will need to be expressed and all those interested in participating in this important issue should make themselves known to any Cllr or the Clerk. Future Newsletters and the website will report as appropriate.
The PCC has requested, and the Council has agreed, that three spaces for disabled parking may be marked out on the Redhearn Green car park. They will be reserved for the disabled when required by St. John's. At other times they will be available to all.
The Council is to co-opt a Councillor to replace Cllr Hicks who resigned. Those interested in joining the Council should apply to the Clerk by Wednesday, 18 th June. Full details are on Council noticeboards and the website.Churt Parish Council
