What to do.
Churt is surrounded by places of interest to visit. Here are a few examples:-
Guildford, an historic market city with its cobbled High Street offering a range of shops and entertainment, a modern cathedral overlooks the city which has the river Wey running through the centre.
Godalming and Farnham, local market towns on a smaller scale than Guildford but with no less things to see, both built on rivers with riverside walks and trips, museums and markets. Much of the older architecture has been preserved.
Churt village has three public houses within its boundaries. The Crossways in the centre of Churt is an old fashioned freehouse serving good home cooked lunches but no evening meals. It has guest ales and is always busy, full of life and locals!
The Pride of the Valley hotel and bar has recently changed hands and boasts a separate restaurant serving locally produced food to a high standard whilst the large bar area has plenty of room for the drinkers who only require a bar meal.
The Frensham Pond Hotel is one of the Best Western chain and the restaurant has a view across Frensham Pond. It is built on a more modern scale than the old world charm of the Pride of the Valley with plenty of rooms. The bar is used mainly by residents.
The Countryside is easily accessable and footpaths are clearly shown on local OS maps. Main areas of interest would be The Devils Punchbowl (A large Valley that climbs to the very top of the Hindhead Hill); The Devils Jumps (A series of three hillls surrounded by miles of open heath and woodland), one of which is accessible to the Public near the Pride of the Valley Hotel; The Flashes which are near the Jumps and consist of large areas of shallow water in the centre of the heathland; Frensham Ponds (These are two lakes which are surrounded by National Trust Land and which can be explored to the full) Frensham Great Pond Sailing Club occupies the Great Pond although there are areas set aside for bathing on the sandy shores;Alice Holt Forest is a well managed area of Forestry Commission land with illustrated walks, cycle rides, pony trekking, organised talks etc and picnic areas including a cafe with facilities for parties etc. for more info visit: forestfoodcaterers.co.uk.
